Nursing Homes Visitation Rules Have Changed

Having a loved one in a nursing home facility, even in normal times, can be a harrowing experience. We put our trust in others to take care of the people we love the most. The Rule Changes

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control changed the nursing home visit restrictions, opening up these facilities to families. This follows the federal guidance that was released last month. Specifically, nursing homes must allow visitation for all residents at all times, unless there is a high-risk situation that requires the facility to limit visitation for specific residents.

DHEC recommends that families contact the nursing home directly to ensure that the facility is complying with these new rules. Though, DHEC now has a dashboard that has the status of each nursing home facility throughout the state.

If one does not believe that the nursing home facility is following the new DHEC rules, family members can submit complaints directly to DHEC. DHEC will then follow-up directly with each facility.
