Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident Last Friday

The Law Office of Daryl G. Hawkins, LLC Oct. 22, 2020

Motor vehicle accidents are a daily occurrence on our roads and highways. While Columbia roads may be less congested than many other larger cities, they are nonetheless, still dangerous. This danger was highlighted last Friday in a fatal two-vehicle car accident.

The Accident

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the fatal motor vehicle accident occurred on Oct. 16 on Farrow Road, just before 7:30 a.m. SCHP claimed that a Honda Accord was traveling northbound. When the Accord tried to make a left turn onto Hard Scrabble Road, it struck a Jeep Cherokee that was traveling southbound.

Unfortunately, a passenger in the Accord died as a result of the crash. And, the drivers of both vehicles were taken to a local hospital in unknown injuries. SCHP is still investigating the accident, and anyone who witnessed that accident or has dashboard camera footage should contact them immediately.

Options After Car Accidents

Of course, it is not entirely clear who is at fault in this car accident, which is why SCHP is still investigating the crash. However, when fault is determined, the victims, including the passenger’s family, can sue the responsible party to hold them accountable.

Indeed, for Columbia, South Carolina, residents, there are options after car accidents, even fatal motor vehicle accidents. State law allows accident victims to hold those responsible for those car accidents to be held accountable. This means that, through a personal injury lawsuit, accident victims can recover damages, including pain and suffering, that resulted from the accident. Though, the first step in getting some semblance of justice is often calling an attorney.
